There is a tanker explosion at Otedola/Ojodu Berger this evening and over 20 cars were reportedly  burnt . The number of casualty in the incident is not yet ascertained but at the moment efforts are already in place to put out the fire as The Lagos Fire Service officers are already spotted at the scene. And calls have been made to other appropriate authorities to intervene in the sad incident to avert a break down of law and order. More reports coming.. How N1.6bn Disappeared Under Former Governor, Babangida

Saidu Abdullahi, Account General of Niger State, has told Justice Yalim Suleiman Bogoro of the Federal High Court sitting in Minna, Niger State how a former governor of the State, Babangida Aliyu, ordered the disbursement of over N1.6billion from the State’s statutory account for no reason. While being led in evidence by Ben Ikani, counsel to the EFCC, as PW10, Abdullahi, told the court all he knew about the ecological funds, stating that the disbursements were made in three tranches. Hunters Kills Hippopotamus In Niger State

After many hours of rigorous hunting, a hippopotamus met its death in River Niger, Jebba, Niger state, yesterday. The hunt for it allegedly started in the early hours of Wednesday and was killed at about 4 pm on Thursday, after six gunshots and numerous arrows. It was said to have been killed to avert tragedy in the area. Four local boats were destroyed in the process.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has said phase four of the second Niger Bridge will be completed next month. The minister, who disclosed this, on Wednesday, in continuation of his ongoing tour of Federal Government projects across the country, declared that the bridge will be ready for use in 2020 and expressed satisfaction at the pace of work on the bridge. He said: “I am very excited. The thing about this project is that, because of the alignment, people travelling on the old bridge will say nothing is going on because they cannot see it, but you have come here and you can see the amount of work that is going on, so, I am very very excited,” the minister told the journalists who accompanied him on the tour. 19-year-old Nigerian, Deandre Ayton was selected as the first overall pick by the Phoenix Suns at the 2018 NBA draft on Thursday, June 21 at a glamorous event held at the Barclays Center in New York. Deandre was born to British-Nigerian, Edward Egerue who is also from Imo State, Nigeria. His mother, Andrea is a Bahamian of Jamaican descent. The Oyo State Government has shut down Bodija market, Ibadan, as police and butchers clash on Thursday. According to the verified twitter handle of the Oyo State Government, @oyostategovt, it was shut after gunshots were heard in the market. The state government had directed that the butchers should relocate to a new abattoir outside the town but the butchers did not agree with the directive. On Tuesday, the butchers staged a protest at the state secretariat in Ibadan over the demolition of the abattoir in the market by the government over the weekend. Our correspondent learned that Thursday’s clash began when some of the butchers accused their leaders of taking gratification from the government to support the relocation order. Plateau Government Requests N10bn From FG For Victims Of Attack

The Plateau State Government has asked the Federal Government to release N10billion from the Victims Support Fund (VSF) to the state. Commissioner for Information in the state, Mr Yakubu Dati, made the request on Wednesday during his interview with Channels TV. The request is coming days after herdsmen attacked on some villages in Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area of the state, where at least, 200 persons were killed by suspected herdsmen. Recall that suspected armed herders on June 24, 2018, killed 86 persons during an attack on Razat, Ruku, Nyarr, Kura and Gana-Ropp villages of Gashish District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. A depressed man has decided to end his life by taking rat/insect poison in Bauchi state in an apparent suicide. According to reports, the man who had been troubled, took the poison and started to vomit white substance from his mouth few minutes later. The man gave up the ghost before he was rushed to the hospital by his neighbors after noticing what he had done. His corpse was later evacuated from the area and taken to an undisclosed place considering the manner he died. Federal Government Plans Additional $2.8bn Foreign Loan To Finance 2018 Budget

The federal government plans to borrow $2.8 billion offshore to finance its 2018 budget and would explore all options to lower costs, the Director General, Debt Management Office (DMO), Ms Patience Oniha, disclosed in an interview with Reuters Wednesday in Abuja. The government, according to her, has laid out plans to borrow abroad even as interest rates are rising in the United States, raising fears that the country could pay a higher premium than its most recent debt sale in February. The country, which left recession last year, approved a three-year plan in 2016 to borrow more from abroad so that 40 per cent of its loans would come from offshore to lower borrowing costs. It now has around 23 per cent of its debt from abroad, up from 16 per cent when it approved the plan. A 14-year-old JSS 1 student has been crushed to death by a truck in Ibadan area of Oyo state. According to reports, the student was knocked down by the truck driver while trying to cross the road as the pupil was crushed to death in the process. The accident and the pupil’s untimely death was said to have caused tension in the area. Just last month, a driver of Oyo State-owned mass transit bus killed a secondary school pupil in Ibadan. The accident, which attracted other pupils, resulted in a mob attack on the bus, popularly called Ajumose. People vandalized the vehicle by smashing the windscreen and side mirror. Court Orders Forfeiture Of Diezani’s N325.4m Land

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the temporary forfeiture of a parcel of land in Lekki, Lagos State, linked to a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to the Federal government. The land valued at N325.4 million, is located at Plot 13, Block II, Oniru Chieftaincy Private Family Estate. Justice Babs Kuewumi made the order for the forfeiture yesterday June 27th following an ex-parte application by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) counsel, Mr. Anslem Ozioko. Ozioko told the judge that the land was suspected to have been acquired with proceeds of crime. He told the court that the land was discovered while the antigraft agency was investigating an ally of the former minister, Donald Amamgbo. Justice Kuewumi also directed the anti-graft agency to publish the temporary forfeiture order in a national daily to put interested parties on notice. The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission of plotting to compromise the July 14 governorship election. Fayemi, who raised the alarm through Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation, alleged that four officials of INEC were neck-deep in the new plot. A 32-year-old man, Abdul-Azeez Haruna, has been arrested by men of Ogun State police command for impersonating as a military officer at Ifesowapo Community of Ijako in Sango Otta. The suspect who had been terrorizing residents of Ijako with military camouflage was seen in a show of force, at about 2:00 pm, removing a television set from the house of a resident. His action aroused the suspicion of members of the community who accosted him, held him hostage and thereafter, sent a distress call to the police at Sango-Otta Division. Upon the arrival of policemen, Haruna still insisted that he was an Army personnel, but had to debunk that claim, on sighting soldier guarding the Otta Unit of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Ibrahim Idris, has deployed Special Intervention Force to Plateau to restore peace in Barkin-Ladi, Riyom, Jos South local government areas and other flash points in the state. Many people were killed by gunmen on June 24 in Barkin-Ladi, Riyom, Jos South local government areas of plateau. A statement by the Force Spokesman, acting DCP Jimoh Moshood, on Monday in Abuja, noted that two police aerial surveillance helicopters, five Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs) and three Police Mobile Force Units (PMF) were deployed. He said that two Counter Terrorism Units (CTU) and Police Intelligence Unit and conventional police personnel from other states have also been deployed to the affected areas. Moshood added that the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of operations had relocated to Plateau on the directive of the I-G to coordinate and supervise the operations.
